More than 10 students have been killed and several others deeply wounded in a cult war that is currently rocking the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede in Imo State.
The killing spree which left gory images on the internet, was carried out by rival cult groups on vengeance mission and has been going on unchecked for the last one week.
The incident has led to grounding of academic activities in federal polytechnic Nekede while students have fled their hostels for their lives.
It was gathered that the victims were either shot or butchered to death before being decapitated by the dare-devil cultists.
The lash between two rival cult gangs, the Ayes and Baggers confraternities, has lasted over two weeks.
Residents of the host community who have been witnessing broad day massacre have deserted their homes for fear of the reprisal.
The incident has prompted the management of federal polytechnic Nekede to place a restriction on movement in and out of the school after 6pm.
However, the Registrar of the Polytechnic, Martin Aligbe, said that the identities of victims have not been confirmed.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Orlando Ikeokwu, while confirming the incident, said a detachment of Police from the state police Command has been deployed to the area.
He said that some suspects, including those with arms, have been arrested by the Anti-Cult Department of the Command.
