Fake drug factory busted in Aba by NDLEA operatives

Busted!!! – A secret fake drug factory in Aba, Abia state, has been uncovered and dismantled by the officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). NDLEA operatives recovered 400 kilograms of Diazepam and arrested four suspects involved in the criminal act.

The fake drug the factory is located along Aba/Port Harcourt expressway, in Aba, as reported by daily trust. The factory operators manufacture a drug which they branded Diazepam and claimed it was made in India to deceive the public.

The ceased drug, Diazepam was in tablets and powder when NDLEA officials invaded the premises where they also seized the culprits. The active ingredients (Diazepam) with diluent such as binders and fillers like maize – starch/sugar, plus manganese stearate and blue color were compressed into several plastic mould to form tablets for human consumption. .

According to the Commander, Mr Akingbade Bamidele, Diazepam is a controlled drug that could only be produced under a strict and monitored environment, as it could result to addiction. Mr Akingbade Bamidele added that the drug is use for the treatment of a condition called insomnia (a sleep disorder that is characterized by difficulty falling and/or staying asleep). Diazepam produces critical and lasting effects on the central nervous system leading to dizziness therefore causing the patient to fall asleep.
