In 2011, a young chinese man, Xiao Wang who was so desperate for an Apple iPhone 4 sold his kidney to get one, now he is dying. iPhone 4 which Apple Inc had released on 24th June, 2010 at that time was everyone’s delight.

17-year old Xiao Wang made a deal that raised him enough cash to purchase the device, but at a very high cost of his kidney. His family didn’t have the cash for iPhone 4, so he took the leap.

Mr Wang actually sold one of his kidneys for $3,200 USD at that time. In 2011, $3,200 USD amounts to approximately 528,000 naira. However due to tripled exchange rate, $3,200 now amounts to about N1.2m.

Wang got enough money which was actually more than enough for him to purchase the iPhone 4 which cost $500 at most, 82,000 naira.

iPhone 4 was a status symbol at Wang’s school, which is why he wanted one so badly.

The kidney operation was successfully carried out at in an underground hospital; Wang was told that after a week of recovery, he’d be able to “live a normal life” with just one kidney.

Unfortunately, the operation was carried out in a contaminated environment making Wang develop complications in his other kidney which now threatenes his life.

Now, 24 years of age, Xiao Wang will never live a normal life, and while he received a settlement from the hospital, he will need to continue with dialysis which his family is struggling to pay for. Wang is now on dialysis for the rest of his short-term life.

The General Manager, Corporate Communications, FAAN, Henrietta Yakubu, said that the power failure was due to a “minor electrical fault”.

Sahara Reporters reported that sources close to the terminal reveal that some of the passengers had to pull off their shirt especially the males and use hand fans.

Phew.

Yakubu further stated that FAA  engineers were already working to rectify the “minor electrical fault”, assuring the public that normalcy would be restored soon.

Yakubu added by saying that the outage did not affect normal flight operations at the airport and flight operations continued uninterrupted.

Well, the terminal crew switched to manual.
