Nigerian Military is now monitoring Nigerians activities on social media – Read reactions

Published

Nigerians guess what.
The Nigerian military wants to now monitor your activities on social media. This was made known by the Director of Defence Information, Major-General John Enenche. He said that the monitoring is to checkmate any form of hate speech, anti-government and anti-security information. Feel free to comment how you feel about the action by the military.

This is so naive. Already Nigerians are reacting on social media like twitter, see some post.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js On social media, Obviously, Nigerians aren’t happy with the news and they’ve been reacting to it mostly saying its an attempt to gag citizens’ expression of their feelings through the use of social media. Read my reaction below.

My Verdict

Nigeria should just knock out of the naivety, monitoring and checkmating innocent citizen when they express their opinion which may be contrary to the actions by the government is no acceptable move at all. Nigeria have failed to let the voice of the citizen to be heared, now they want their mouth to be sealed. You may be able to monitor it but cannot stop us from saying the truth. The Nigeria military which their activities have failed to the accounted for. From lying that Shekaur has been defeated to making public that you have conquered Boko-haram, how untrustworthy. You cannot even say the truth so you want to block the truth. We, Nigerians do not like and want our activities monitored by some irresponsible institution. There may be al ot going on in the country now due to failed and unchecked activities, why don’t you go monitor those ones, if your job cannot keep you busy anymore.

Update: Read what Major-General John Enenche said about Nigerian military monitoring social media activities of Nigerians
“It is a double-edged sword and we are also having a bit of it,” he said when he appeared on Channels Television’s News At 10, hours after President Buhari met with service chiefs and ordered them to strengthen their operations.
“Imagine when the President came back and addressed the nation, not up to 30 minutes later, a fake speech of the Commander-In-Chief was being circulated in order to do what? To derail the people. If you are not very sharp and if you didn’t listen to the speech or you don’t have a copy of it like I had it almost immediately, you wouldn’t know. So, looking at it from that perspective, it is a challenge everywhere.”

“What are we doing? In the military, we are now taking on it more seriously than ever. We have our strategic media centres that monitor the social media to be able to sieve out and react to all the ones that will be anti-government, be anti-military, (and) be anti-security,” the military chief continued.
“We tackle them appropriately with appropriate responses. Ahead of that, we are also proactive. We have measures in place, scientific measures to be able to sieve this information and also to get the public and let them know that some of this information they are getting is not genuine are not true and their objective is an anti-corporate existence of this country.” –
